November 2025 Newsletter Bodywork by the Beach

Bodywork by the Beach!

Since my last newsletter I have been very busy welcoming around 30 new clients, primarily from the Horowhenua at my new Levin clinic. But also, of course, at the Ngaio and Upper Hutt clinics.

Welcome to you all! I appreciate the support and I trust that we can work together for better health and well-being, in a more holistic, healing way, than the medical model is currently able to offer. What I do may not be for everyone, but hopefully most people find some benefit.

This letter I produce roughly 10 times per year, with some salient news. Also, I include some advice wrought from my own experience, but more importantly from personal distinctions that you guys kindly share about your own hard-won wisdom, or things you sometimes struggle with. For all that I am truly grateful to you.

Bodywork by the Beach!

Over the Christmas - New Year period I am opening my Levin clinic for extended days, so if you’re heading away to your favourite beach, or just passing through town, please feel free to come on over to my house at Levin and check out the newest clinic! And its only 10 minutes from Hokio and Waitarere beaches!

My last day at Upper Hutt will be 18 December, reopening 8 January.

My last day at Ngaio will be 23 December, reopening 6 January.

I’ve decided that this newsletter will be the last one before Christmas. I’ll catch you again in January.

Planning – Yeah, whatever!

We all know that planning can be a useful tool at times. But not all the time.

One of those times that planning is NOT HELPFUL is when everything in my life is falling to pieces. Not now, but it’s happened in the past. And usually when things turn to custard, its not just one thing. This stuff usually comes in two’s or three’s or more. Until eventually I just throw my hands in the air and shout: ‘I give up. What do you want from me Life?’

At those times the best plan is NO PLAN.

Just Simplify, be Patient with yourself, and have Compassion for yourself.

Wake up, take one step at a time, do not get ahead of the next step. Pay attention to the present moment, to your present needs, reduce your commitments, limit your social activity, try to eat well, avoid unhelpful substances, drink water.

Then, if you are patient enough, Life will always have your back, and it will show you the way forward. Trust that.

Let’s say you’re a little further along

You made some necessary changes. Things have stabilised. You’re feeling healthier. You’re curious about what’s next?

At this stage it may be helpful to ask some questions that one of my tutors kindly gave to me. Still no planning involved. Just food for thought:

1.       What do you want for your life?

2.       What is your soul’s desire?

3.       What patterns, life experiences or belief systems are holding you back, or keeping you stuck?

Spend some time mulling those ideas over. No rush. If you need help with question 3, then perhaps I can help you get to the crux of that.

No amount of planning is going to help if you can’t get to the bottom of question 3 for yourself. But when you do, it will be transformational.

Price changes

Prices for single 60 minute sessions, $125, and 4 x 60 minute packs, $400, will remain the same.

All other prices will increase by $5 per session from 1 January 2026. It has been 2 years since my last price change, and I don’t foresee another one for a similar period going forward.

For the benefit of my newer clients:

Who is this guy Rhys?

I’m a 62-year-and-50-week-old (yes I’m a Sag) widower living in Levin with my small, opinionated, but loveable schnauzer, Luna. I’ve lived in Christchurch, Auckland, Wellington, Invercargill and shorter spells in England and Melbourne. I’m now settled in my ideal location, with garden, trees and easy access to the coast. I spent my early career in science, IT, and finance before moving into ambulance, and latterly bodywork for the last 8 years or so.

I’m living my best life now, and I’m grateful every day for that. I like to swim, walk the dog, especially at Waitarere Beach when I get the chance. I watch live music semi-regularly and I love spending time with close friends. And I may get back on my bike again soon?! I love the garden and the fresh fruit it provides. I have plans for a vege patch soon. I have a grudging relationship with house maintenance and redecorating, which probably will never end. I enjoy sport, but I’m getting a little tired of watching the ones where the participants regularly get head or neck injuries in the name of entertainment. It feels a little gratuitous, like being a spectator at the Colosseum with the Christians and the Lions might have been?

I also like to be present most of the time and just see what life brings. I find life goes much better that way. I do some short mediations next to my favourite trees in the garden, but really most of my meditation is my work. It’s a chance to be absolutely present with a person’s body, listening to what it tells me, and what their inner wisdom has prioritised for treatment today.

I’ve been doing a lot of study these last few years, but thankfully, the formal part of that is pretty much done now. I sat my final Craniosacral examinations in the last week. One of the things I love about my work, though, is that I’m always learning something new, every week without fail, from you guys. Once again, thank you!
