Transformation
In past newsletters we’ve been dealing with sod’s, gnarly thoughts and other problems.
This month I want to spin things 180 degrees and talk about the positive, transformational possibilities of bodywork. And also to let you know about an opportunity for you, or someone you know, to begin learning a system to do this with friends and family.
As you know, bodywork is used to release physical tension and help a person relax. Sometimes long-term chronic pain can be reduced through these rebalancing techniques.
However, for some people, with one, or several, recurring complaints, something may also need to change at a deeper level, for them to achieve lasting health improvements.
Perhaps they have not experienced happiness for a while. So then, if I as the therapist, focus on touch that feels good for the client, the ‘good’ feeling of the work, can subtly counteract the ‘unhappiness’ at an unconscious level. When people feel happier, usually they have fewer health problems.
I have worked with other people that have had life questions, or pivotal decision points pending in their lives. They can frame a question to ‘The Universe’, or whichever deity they are comfortable with, at the start of the session. Generally, answers will come for them, either during the session, or in the following days.
I have found through long, painful experience in my own life, that trying to work big problems out by thinking it through, just me and my ego, is a recipe for disaster. Things have gone way better when I’ve let ‘The Universe/Life’ show me the way. Bodywork takes me to a place where I can just let go and allow that to happen.
For many, just getting that timeout, in that deeper, wordless connection with their ‘inner self’ is what they crave and need most from the bodywork. It helps them rebalance mentally, emotionally and physically in their daily lives.
And then there are those impacted by profound emotional trauma, who can peel away the onion layers of pain gradually, and find peace.
Zero Balancing, developed by Dr Fritz Smith (pictured above), is one of the bodywork systems I use, and is a profound tool in support of wellness and personal transformation.
“Zero Balancing is a touch therapy that utilises a unique form of skilled “ZB Touch” that was first described by its Founder Dr Fritz Smith as a structural acupressure system of healing. Over the past 50 years, as an understanding of the healing potential of Zero Balancing has deepened, with many thousands of clients across all age groups receiving sessions, Zero Balancing has developed into a profound tool in support of wellness and personal transformation.” (https://zbtouch.org/about-zb/)
Zero Balancing is a system that almost anyone can learn. You don’t need a health background or qualification. However, existing practitioners in other health modalities will certainly also gain a deeper appreciation of the relationship of structure and energy in the human body.
The same zbtouch.org website says that Zero Balancing may have the following benefits:
Feel calmer and more energized. Client’s report experiencing a welcome sense of relaxation and renewed vitality, similar to that felt after mindfulness and meditation practises.
Feel less stressed. Quantitative research has demonstrated that a 30-minute ZB session reduces a person’s measured stress by over 60%, versus a 12% stress reduction for clients during an equivalent rest period (read more). Rhys Dwyer worded it this way: “What is more restful than rest? Zero Balancing by 48%!”
Feel clear, connected and whole. Further research has found clients reporting a deep sense of calm, mental clarity and connection with themselves… of feeling integrated, of “coming home” and being “at one” with themselves.
Feel emotionally stable. Clients who schedule monthly sessions report they feel an ongoing sense of feeling more stable, grounded and effortlessly uplifted.
Feel hopeful about life. A Zero Balancing session amplifies a positive sense of life. Because ZB addresses the whole body and mind, this healing system does not depend on a specific complaint. Even if you are well and feeling good, you can benefit from a ZB session.
If you would like to understand more about transformational possibilities for yourself, then please discuss with me.
If you would like to learn the Zero Balancing system of bodywork, there is a four-day course being run in Feilding 1-4 March 2027. At the end of the course, you will have a solid protocol of techniques which you can put to use immediately on friends and family to support them. This is the first time for two years this beginning ZB 1 course has been offered in New Zealand. For those really keen to learn more in this modality the follow-up ZB 2 course is also on offer from 6-9 March.
Your teacher, Rebekah Harbour, with 24 years of ZB practice, is based in Hawaii, but has been visiting for many years now to teach the local ZB community with depth, clarity and warmth. She was my own mentor, and quite frankly, she is amazing to learn with. The courses are not quite up on her site yet, but if you’d like to learn more follow this link: rebekahharbour.com/training
