BODYWORK FOR SPORTS
Physical and mental maintenance
& so much more
Pre-event balancing
Promotes integration prior to activity, such as a couple of days out before a big event, or heavy training
When an athlete is tapering before a big event they can do a bodywork session after their last training session, a couple of days prior to game day. They typically feel physically integrated and calmer on the big day.
(I do not recommend bodywork immediately prior to training on the same day, though afterwards is fine.)
Grounding
Settles the athlete’s nerves, to promote feelings of calm, wellness and confidence, and avoid stress
Recovery
Bodywork can help with recovery from a big event to release bone/joint tension and soreness
(I have a client who typically visits in the afternoon following her Saturday netball match to ease any stiff bones and sore joints.)
Chronic Injuries, Post-Season & Post-Career
To recover from niggly chronic impact injuries to bones or joint sprains. Bodywork can relieve tension from bone and settle areas of inflammation.
If the regular ice and physio hasn’t helped then it’s time to try bodywork
(Always seek regular medical care before coming for bodywork)
Head Trauma Symptoms
Recovery from concussion and other brain trauma - alleviate symptoms such as headaches, memory loss, mood challenges, dizziness, tinnitus, loss of balance, hypersensitivity to light or sound, tightness in neck and shoulders, sleep problems, general hopelessness and frustration

Stress
Bodywork also relieves tension in the body brought on by stress, whether that’s related to sports performance, work, social, or other pressures

Transformative Possibilities - Goals and Dreams
Bodywork therapy may also promote the experience of expanded awareness, leading to transformative possibilities that could trigger a turning point in life
Clients are able to frame desired outcomes in terms of their target trait(s), or float a current life question for resolution. Sometimes apparently simple questions can be fundamentally important to the client, leading to life changing possibilities.
“Sometimes in a moment, everything can change.” Eleanor Catton
One person may desire calm before a crucial physical, emotional or intellectual test.
Or perhaps they seek guidance at a fork in their career road?
What impact could these outcomes have on your goals and dreams?
“Each session I feel peaceful and relaxed, I leave with confidence that we have just pushed 'reset' and that each time the reset level gets higher.” Recent client
Others say …
“It made sense to me that you need to treat the whole body, that you can get deferred pain and that by working on the whole body you bring back the balance that not only helps the injured part but also your body as a whole. Everyone else had only focused on the hip and that didn't work so I decided to give it a try. I am so pleased that I did.” Ellen
“I have lived with back and hip pain since a back injury in 2015. I thought I’d have to live with the constant pain for the rest of my life but since I’ve been going to Rhys my pain is almost completely gone. It’s fantastic! He’s very professional and very, very good at what he does. Anyone feeling sceptical just give it a try you’ve nothing to lose except pain!” Jennie
“ZB is incredible. As a skeptic I was never going to be easily convinced, however you can’t argue with the results. Rhys is very professional, listens carefully and achieves excellent outcomes with problem areas. One of the outcomes that I wasn’t expecting was the feeling of calm and well-being, it has also improved my balance in the saddle.” Lesley
“My body is moving with more grace and freedom from your treatment and my energy has moved tremendously to release blocked emotions that no longer need to be with me ... How could stretching my bones out give me this holistic healing outcome? Simply because it does.” Tiriana
What can I expect at a Zero Balancing session?
The first session will take an hour, which includes a 15 minute discussion around relevant history, needs and goals.
It's best to wear comfortable, loose fitting or stretchy clothing to the appointment. Shoes, glasses and belts are removed prior to assessment and treatment. During the treatment people typically lie face-up, fully clothed on a therapy table.
The focus is primarily on bones and joints from head to foot, with some soft tissue work as needed. Treatment involves non-invasive stretches and acupressure, from head to foot, including arms.
Clients can expect to be treated with absolute respect and integrity

Holistic Healing
Most therapies focus on one issue, but they rarely consider the whole person. Holistic Zero Balancing is effective to balance both body and mind, and can also help you be more in tune with your spiritual core.
A headmaster client recently attended a Te Whare Tapa Wha launch – the four pillars of holistic health from a Maori perspective:
Physical
Mental
Spiritual
Social/Whanau
He said to Rhys, “This (bodywork) ticks all four of those boxes for me.”
